Family Update

I have not been a good blogger for awhile!  Life has a way of getting busy and getting the best of you.  I thought I'd do a little update on the fam.

Dave:  Work at Sterile Surgical Systems keeps him hopping, but he loves that he made the move to this company over a year and a half ago.  It's great seeing him go to work happy with what he's doing.  He was recently our fearless leader for our Relay for Life - Team Caleb!  An update will be forthcoming!  Dave never does anything half-heartedly and he did an incredible job!  He's a wonderful grandpa and always loves seeing Caleb and Kai and playing with them.  At church, he is the organizer of our Haiti teams and is "security" for our new children's wing.  In the neighborhood, he is the treasurer of our Homeowners' Association.
Kim:  The school year is drawing to a close and I'm going to admit that I'm ready for a nice, long break!  This has been a tough year, in large part due to a revolving door of students.  My quick mental count is 16 kids coming and going throughout the year.  My big joy is being grandma to Kai and Caleb!  They are my little lights and it brings me such happiness to have them reach out their arms for me to hold them and give them lots of hugs and kisses!  Last month I ran/walked my first 5K - "The Color Run" in the Seattle Center area.  I did it with Melissa and a few friends.  It was a blast and I look forward to doing more of these in the future!  I probably spend more time than I should on Facebook and Pinterest!  I love Pinterest and getting new and clever ideas for home and school. :)  At Harper Church, I enjoy being at the Welcome Counter, greeting new and old friends.  I also am the Hope for Kidz coordinator - finding and maintaining sponsors for our student friends in Les Irois, Haiti.  It is a privilege to help our students Zidane and Rose gain an education in an impoverished area.
Melissa and Kyle:  Melissa is a fantastic mom to little Caleb.  She has stepped up to the plate with grace with all that comes with having a child who has had cancer and lots of medical appointments.  Working part-time at Tully's Coffee in Bellevue keeps her connected with friends and customers.  Kyle found out in March that his job at Verizon is being relocated to Salt Lake City at the end of this month.  This brought prayers for a big decision - whether to stay with the company and move to SLC or look for a job in the Seattle area.  He put out resumes to different companies both in the technical writing field and customer tech support.  A few weeks ago he interviewed and job shadowed at an insurance company and found out recently that he was offered a position with them, although he had time to mull over the decision.  While he was job shadowing, he also had an interview with a software company called Rocket Software in Kirkland.  They also offered Kyle a position in tech support.  Kyle felt this was a better fit for him and took their offer.  God certainly has led the way for them in all areas of their lives and they are great parents.  They found a church they like in the Snoqualmie area - Church on the Ridge - and just moved into a wonderful new 2 bedroom apartment in Kirkland, close to Kyle's job.
Ryan and Alyssa:  Ryan continues in his Title 10 position with the Coast Guard.  He has gone back to South Carolina for law enforcement training and is certified as a boarding officer.  At the tender age of 23, he is already in charge of a boat crew for one of the 25 foot boats and has had some incredible experiences.  He has been in the Coast Guard for almost 5 years already and has upped for another 5 years.  He is taking up golfing again.  Alyssa is a super stay-at-home mom to little Kai.  She spends a lot of time with him...playing, reading, and educating.  She is a wonderfully devoted wife and mom.  They are such loving parents to Kai.  Ryan, Alyssa, and Kai have had some travel experiences lately with trips to Bend, Oregon and Nashville, Tennessee for the weddings of Alyssa's sisters Kayla (Bend in May) and Ariel (Nashville last weekend).  She graciously put together bridal showers for both of her sisters.  Ryan and Alyssa have been reading chronologically through the Bible.  They live a ferry ride away in West Seattle.
Kai and Caleb:  What can I say about these two little loves?!  Kai is 22 months old and can identify so many things.  If you say a word he can show you where it is.  When he chatters, he cracks himself up.  He loves Buddy "Buddis" and will follow him around the house giving him hugs and trying to sit on him.  Kai is huge into water and being outside and is happiest running around and playing at a playground!  He has a fascination with planes right now and will always point them out in the sky.  Caleb is 17 months old and has two favorite words "hi" and "yeah".  You can count on him saying those multiple times a day - with much gusto!  His vocabulary is increasing and he'll mimic words you say, even surprising us with words we didn't know he knew.  He has a happy smile and also likes playing on the playground.  His smile is contagious.  Both boys give the best hugs and love blowing kisses to grammy and grandpa.  It melts my heart when they see us, break into a grin, and give us a big, happy hug!
